Following three terms Dr Amanda Wolf will be stepping down as Editor of Operant Subjectivity as of volume 37, issue 1 (October 2013). The ISSSS Executive Committee invite applications for a replacement Editor. The successful candidate will initially take up a position as Associate Editor from Jan 2013 to work alongside Amanda Wolf before taking over formally as Editor for Volume 37 of the journal. The term of Editor is three years in the first instance.

The Editor of Operant Subjectivity is a very important and valued role in the society. The Editor is responsible for the content and publication of the journal, including its editorial and publication policies, selecting reviewers and determining the review process. Timely publication of quarterly issues is a necessary pre-requisite to indexing the journal in the future. The journal is also in the midst of some important changes, including a move to online access. The Editor will work with John Nicholas (Managing Editor), who is responsible for printing and distributing the journal, and with the ISSSS Executive Committee. The Editor is supported by an Editorial Board and an International Advisory Board.

Editing a journal is a great opportunity to make and maintain diverse connections in the Q- methodology community, to work with leading academics internationally, to deepen understanding and to engage in a wider reading of the Q-methodology literature. Applicants should have a solid understanding of Q methodology, good written communication skills and a willingness to engage with Q methodologists from the full range of disciplines and levels of experience. To apply, write to the President of ISSSS, Dr Rachel Baker (Rachel.Baker@gcu.ac.uk) outlining

  1. What you can contribute to the journal, how you hope to develop the role of Editor, and any ideas you may have for the journal itself.
  2. How you intend to manage the additional work associated with this position alongside your current role, including mention of any institutional support (e.g. protected time/release from other duties).

A brief CV should be attached indicating Q-methodology experience, expertise and publications, and current or past editorial responsibilities.

The current Editor is happy to respond to informal or confidential queries by email (Amanda.Wolf@vuw.ac.nz)

Please send your application by 31st October 2012.  All applications will be considered by a committee comprised of members of the Executive Committee, the ISSSS President, the OS Editor and senior colleagues. The appointment committee may request additional information from applicants or invite an applicant to discuss the appointment with a member of the committee (via Skype). A decision will be reached by 30th November 2012.

The appointment committee will consider joint applications from a proposed Editor and Associate Editor team. Alternatively, individuals may signal their interest in serving as Associate Editor beginning with volume 37 (although the appointment is subject to the new Editor’s agreement).

The committee will also consider nominations. Names of nominees should be sent by email to Rachel Baker. Nominees will be approached by the committee and invited to apply as above.
